The closest major airport to Carmel, California, is San Francisco International Airport (SFO), approximately a 2- to 2.5-hour drive away. With its frequent flights and variety of airlines, SFO is often the best option for most. This also gives you the opportunity to explore all that San Francisco and the Bay Area has to offer.
Groom fact! Brandon grew up in the hills of Oakland and his mom’s side of the family resides there.
For a more convenient flying option, you can also fly into Monterey Regional Airport (MRY), just 10 minutes from Carmel. Flights to MRY are less frequent, but it’s a great choice if you prefer to avoid the longer drive.

To get from SFO to Carmel, we recommend renting a car at SFO for your convenience, as Carmel and the surrounding areas are best explored with a vehicle. The drive from SFO is scenic and offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and rolling hills.

Follow US-101 South to CA-156 West toward Monterey Peninsula.
Merge onto CA-1 South, then follow signs for Carmel-by-the-Sea.
